World Demolition Awards – Winners Announced

 05 Nov 2011
A Gala Awards Dinner held in the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam on 4 November 2011 saw the winners of the 2011 World Demolition Awards announced. The Awards, now in their third year, are intended to recognise best practice and to enhance the standing of the demolition industry worldwide by showcasing the best it has to offer, are organised by D&Ri, this year with the support of a number of national demolition associations.

Two new categories were added to the Awards this year - the Collaboration Award and a special Judges' Discretionary Award. The former is intended to recognise specific demolition projects that by their nature required contractors to work in close communication with other contractors and the client to meet the demands of the work. The latter is a special award than can be given by the judges to an entry that they believe merits recognition while not necessarily meeting all of the criteria required to be adjudged the winner of a formal category.
The international judging panel had an even more challenging task this year, with a number of them commenting to D&Ri that the quality of this year's entries was the highest yet seen, thus making the task of identifying stand-out winners extremely difficult. As a result, in three categories honours were shared between two companies, with the judges unable to separate them. A number of entries once again only just missed out on gaining an actual award, with the judges deeming however that they were nevertheless worthy of mention - a total of six 'Highly Commended' certificates were thus issued, with three of these in a single category. The results in brief are:
